 Long before they started making sinks Carron
used their expertise to make cannons. That’s
right; the heavy artillery kind used by the army
and navy and featured in Edinburgh castle for
example. In fact the Carron Company could lay
claim to a marketing first: it was the first organization
worldwide to have its name synonymous with a product
as Lord Nelson’s flagship, HMS Victory, was
equipped with “Carronades”.
Later Carron turned its expertise
to making Britain’s famous red telephone
boxes and post
boxes which of course were painted green in Ireland
after independence! In a first entry into the
kitchen industry the Carron brand was associated
with top quality cookers before the introduction
of stainless steel kitchen sinks in 1962. The
story has continued from there with Carron Phoenix
now being the UK’s largest dedicated sink
producer.
