Dripping Kitchen Tap Causes and Solutions

Usually your Kitchen Tap is dripping from either (1) the spout, (2) the handle and (3) where the end of the spout meets the body of the Tap.

Common Terms Used in This Guide – Dripping Kitchen Tap Causes and Solutions

Valve / Cartridge:
This is the internal part located behind the tap handle. When you turn the handle to control the water flow, you’re actually turning the valve or cartridge. We supply complete valves and cartridges — not individual internal parts.

O-Rings:
These are rubber rings fitted at the base of the spout, where it connects to the tap body. They help form a watertight seal and prevent leaks around the spout.

⚠️ Important: Do not confuse these with the small black rubber rings found on valves or cartridges.
When we refer to “O-Rings,” we are specifically talking about the ones used on the spout, not those on the valve.

Dripping from the Spout or Handle

It is most likely that the valve needs to be replaced.

If your tap is a single lever tap, then the part you’re replacing is called a cartridge, not a valve.

The following posts might be of use to you :

Can’t find your Valve or Cartridge?

We stock a wide range of ceramic disc valves, compression valves and cartridges used in many kitchen taps.

Each product listing includes detailed images, measurements, and specifications to help you identify the correct part for your tap.

Dripping where the Spout meets the Base

If your tap is leaking where the spout meets the body, these O-rings often need replacing. However, sometimes the spout itself can be worn — especially if there are pinholes or heavy scoring. Replacing O-rings may not resolve leaks if the spout is damaged.

Here is our O-Ring Section. Your tap’s installation guide should list the specific O-Ring or service kit required.

However, please note that some tap models have been updated or modified over time, which means not all parts are interchangeable across versions.

If you don’t have your original installation guide with part numbers, we recommend contacting us before purchasing. Our team will be happy to help identify the correct O-Ring based on your tap model or photos.

We only supply O Rings for the exact Model of Kitchen Tap.

The following Guide should assist you in removing your own Kitchen Spout / Changing O Rings: How to change your Kitchen Tap Spout.
