DIY Guide: How to remove a Brass Bush

Removing a brass bush during a valve repair can be challenging, particularly when limescale or debris has created a stubborn seal. Following these steps on our DIY Guide: How to remove a Brass Bush will help you with safe removal.

Loosen the Build-Up
Apply TT Oil (available from most DIY or car parts stores) around the brass bush to help loosen any mineral deposits or grime.

Tools You’ll Need

  • Adjustable spanner (or correct size) for the nut below the splines at the top of the valve.
  • Vice grips for the brass bush (the wide central section of the valve)

How to Remove the Bush
Hold the nut steady with the spanner and turn the vice grips in the opposite direction, rotating the nut anti-clockwise. This counterforce helps break the seal and allows the bush to come free.
